Mitihoon – Bangkok, June 13, 2025 – PTTEP commemorates its 40th anniversary, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to strengthening Thailand’s energy security through continuous exploration and production both domestically and internationally to serve the energy needs of the country and its people. This four-decade dedication is conveyed through a new song, “The Power of Power”, performed by two artists, Toon Artiwara and Ally Achiraya, aiming to inspire and energize everyone.
Mr. Montri Rawanchaikul, Chief Executive Officer of PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP), stated that 40 years ago, guided by the visionary leadership of the state, Thailand set out on an ambitious path to develop its own capabilities in petroleum exploration, development, and production. This strategic vision aimed to enhance national energy self-reliance and strengthen long-term energy security. It was from this bold aspiration that PTTEP was established on June 20, 1985, as a spin-off from PTT. The mission entrusted to PTTEP back then was highly challenging. Thai companies at that time faced significant limitations in knowledge, expertise, technology, and investment capital. PTTEP began with determination – learning, training, and building capabilities from the ground up to fulfill this national mandate.
From its beginnings in 1985, when PTTEP joined a joint venture in the S1 Project (Sirikit field) with its international partners, the company had a production rate of approximately 5,000 barrels per day, based on its participating interest at that time. Today, PTTEP has expanded to over 50 petroleum exploration and production projects across 13 countries. The company’s combined production now stands at approximately 700,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day from key operations including Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Algeria.
In Thailand, PTTEP plays a crucial role by producing approximately 82% of the country’s total natural gas output, primarily from the G1/61, G2/61, and Arthit Projects in the Gulf of Thailand. These energy sources are vital for driving Thailand’s economy, as it is used to generate electricity that powers a wide range of sectors, including manufacturing, transportation, telecommunications, healthcare, and education – and supports the daily lives of Thai people. Furthermore, the natural gas from the Gulf of Thailand contains components that serve as valuable raw materials for the petrochemical industry, delivering significant added value for the country.
Thailand’s petroleum exploration and production industry contributes significantly to national revenue through royalties, petroleum income taxes, profit sharing from Production Sharing Contracts, remunerations, and other income including revenue from the Malaysia-Thailand Joint Development Area (MTJDA). This strongly supports national development in various sectors. Since its establishment through 2024, PTTEP has contributed over 891 billion Baht to the country, including corporate income tax.
As the operator of key petroleum fields both offshore and onshore in Thailand, PTTEP is honored to play an essential role in strengthening the country’s energy security, which is a mission that aligned with the company’s founding purpose. The company will continue to advance this mission by expanding operations both domestically and internationally, enhancing cleaner petroleum production processes, and supporting greenhouse gas reduction through operational efficiencies and the implementation of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology. PTTEP is also working to increase the country’s green areas by targeting the planting of an additional 200,000 rai of forest and is stepping into new forms of energy to prepare for a sustainable energy future.
Alongside its energy mission, PTTEP remains committed to creating shared value with society, communities, and the environment. The company drives sustainable development through various social and environmental initiatives, including projects under the “Ocean for Life” strategy, which help conserve marine resources and ecosystem, while also improving quality of life and increasing income for communities across 17 coastal provinces along the Gulf of Thailand. PTTEP also supports local communities through continuous initiatives in basic needs, education, environment, and culture across its operational areas.

To mark the 40th anniversary, PTTEP introduced the song “The Power of Power”, featuring two vibrant artists – Toon Artiwara Kongmalai and Ally Achiraya Nitibhon – who come together to express the essence of power as a force that supports and drives everyone forward. Toon Artiwara Kongmalai said getting to know PTTEP has deepened his understanding of the vital role energy plays in both our lives and the country.
