Mitihoon – Bangkok, October 16, 2025CP AXTRA Public Company Limited, the operator of Makro and Lotus’s, reinforces its strong commitment to sustainability through a series of corporate initiatives aimed at achieving zero landfill waste by 2030. The company continues to advance its flagship project, “AXTRA Zero Waste: Less Waste, More Value” which focuses on reducing food waste across the entire supply chain from upstream to downstream by converting it into value for local communities through its 2,600 Makro and Lotus’s branches nationwide.

Most recently, Makro Samut Prakan has been developed into a model store for zero food waste management, successfully achieving 100% waste diversion. Unsold surplus food from the store is redistributed to local farmers, who repurpose it as animal feed. This initiative helps reduce farming costs, promote circular economy practices, and minimize environmental impact in a sustainable manner.

Mrs. Siriporn Dechsingha, Chief Corporate Sustainability and Communication Officer, CP AXTRA Public Company Limited, said: “Makro Samut Prakan is a tangible example of effective surplus food management with visible results. The core principle lies in redistributing surplus food that remains safe for consumption to local farmers, who use it as feed for fish and frogs. This not only helps reduce their animal feed expenses but also minimizes organic waste that would otherwise require costly disposal. It’s a win-win approach that creates shared benefits for farmers, the community, and the environment.”

At Makro Samut Prakan, surplus and unsellable food delivered to the Bang Mueang Community Enterprise for Pla Salid (Snakeskin Gourami) and Agricultural Products in Samut Prakan, where they are used as feed for Pla Salid (Snakeskin Gourami), Striped Catfish, Mekong Giant Catfish, frogs, and ducks, after undergoing suitable preparation processes for each species.

Any remaining materials are further utilized for composting and producing bio-fermented fertilizers or water treatment solutions, enabling full waste recovery and reducing feed costs for farmers by more than 80%.
This initiative not only drives the “Zero Food Waste” goal but also creates new value from what was once considered waste, embodying CP AXTRA’s philosophy of growing business in harmony with environmental and community stewardship.

The Makro Samut Prakan Zero Waste Model has been successfully implemented for over two years, under CP AXTRA objective of “Turning Waste into Wealth.” The project has received positive feedback from participating farmers, both in terms of reduced feed costs and improved quality of farm outputs.

This initiative marks a significant step toward comprehensive food waste management, and CP AXTRA plans to expand the model to additional branches nationwide, fostering long-term sustainability for farmers, communities, and society as a whole.
