Mitihoon – SENA Green Energy Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of SENA Development Public Company Limited, has officially announced its collaboration with Macnica, Inc., Japan, in launching the “Demonstration Project of Perovskite Solar Cell System in a Subtropical Region.” The project is funded by the Japanese Government under the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) and marks the world’s first pilot demonstration of Japan-manufactured perovskite technology conducted in Thailand, showcasing international cooperation in clean energy innovation between the Thai real estate sector and a leading Japanese technology company.
The project aims to evaluate the performance of Perovskite Solar Cell (PSC) technology — invented by Prof. Tsutomu Miyasaka from Toin University of Yokohama, Japan — which has been recognized as a next-generation solar technology for its lightweight, ultra-thin, and flexible properties. PSC can generate electricity even under low-light conditions and can be installed in areas where traditional solar panels are limited, such as curved surfaces or architecturally complex buildings.
The initiative is managed by an International Consortium, led by Macnica, Inc. (Japan) as the Representative Participant and SENA Green Energy Co., Ltd. as the Partner Participant in Thailand. SENA plays a key role in providing the testing site, supporting the system installation, and monitoring the real-world performance of the technology under Thai environmental conditions.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Kessara Thanyalakpark, Managing Director of SENA Development PCL and Chief Executive Officer of SENA Green Energy Co., Ltd., stated “SENA began as the first developer in Thailand to install solar panels for every home, before advancing toward the development of Zero Energy Houses, Condo Low Carbon, and most recently, Solar rooftop with Battery Systems all under the concept of ‘SENA Green Affordable Living,’ enabling Thai people to access clean-energy housing at an affordable price.
Today, we are taking another important step toward a cleaner energy future
through our collaboration with Macnica and with the support of the Japanese Government, to test Perovskite Solar Cell (PSC) technology at the clubhouse of SENA Park Ville 2, Ramindra – Wongwaen. The project studies the performance of PSCs under Thailand’s subtropical climate characterized by heat, high humidity, intense UV radiation, and PM2.5 dust with the goal of developing durable PSC systems suited for real-world conditions in Southeast Asia, and extending their applications in homes, offices, and electric vehicles (EVs) to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and accelerate the transition to clean energy.
“We are truly delighted and deeply proud that the Japanese Government recognizes the value of what we have been doing at SENA, and has provided support through the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM). SENA is the only Thai real estate company selected to join this collaboration. This partnership not only reflects the Japanese Government’s confidence in the capability of Thailand’s private sector, but also represents an important opportunity for us to further develop environmentally friendly residential projects. We are committed to creating homes that integrate technology and sustainability, enabling Thai people to access clean-energy housing at a truly affordable price. This is fully aligned with our vision to be a ‘Lifelong Trusted Partner’ for our customers, and reinforces our position as the ‘SENA Sustainable Living Leader’ dedicated to improving quality of life and building a sustainable future for the people of Thailand.”
Mr. Atsushi Sato, Executive Officer, Macnica Holdings, Inc. & General Manager, Strategic Innovation Business Group, Macnica, Inc., said “Macnica is a service/solution company that handles the latest technologies in a comprehensive manner, centered on semiconductors and cyber security. Developing business in 91 locations in 28 countries/regions around the world, leveraging the technological capabilities and global network cultivated over a history of more than 50 years, we discover, propose, and implement cutting-edge technologies such as AI and IoT. In our Circular Economy business, we are committed to achieving a future Sustainable Society by offering solutions that help customers resolve their environmental challenges, thereby contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions and the establishment of a decarbonized society.
This is the first overseas demonstration of a Japanese-invented Perovskite Solar Cell in Thailand, together with SENA Green Energy Co., Ltd., a group company of SENA Development PCL. This technology is also attracting significant attention in Japan. By demonstrating Japanese-made Perovskite Solar Cell under subtropical climatic conditions, we aim to promote their adoption in Asia to the world, starting from Thailand. This project marks a memorable first step toward that goal, and in the future, we hope to widely promote the onsite generation and self-consumption of electricity using Perovskite Solar Cell.”
