Mitihoon – On 14 October 2026, Mr. Chaiwat Kovavisarach, Group Chief Executive Officer, Bangchak Group and President, Bangchak Corporation Plc., in his capacity as Chairman of OKEA ASA, together with Mr. Svein J. Liknes, Chief Executive Officer of OKEA ASA, and Bangchak Group executives, met with executives from Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd. (JAPEX) of Japan and its Norwegian subsidiary, JAPEX Norge AS, at Bangchak’s headquarters, M Tower, Bangkok. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange business perspectives and explore potential collaboration, primarily in upstream business in Asia, while also considering opportunities across their global portfolios.
The JAPEX delegation comprised Mr. Tetsuji Shibuta, Executive Officer and Vice President of the Overseas Business Division, JAPEX, and Chairman of the Board of JAPEX Norge AS; Ms. Hilde Salthe, Managing Director of JAPEX Norge AS; and Mr. Katsutoshi Hirooka, Deputy Managing Director of JAPEX Norge AS. Bangchak Group executives also contributed to the exchange.
The meeting followed OKEA’s sale of its 20% interest in the Mistral license in Norway to JAPEX Norge. Bangchak Group is OKEA’s largest shareholder through its subsidiary, BCPR Pte. Ltd. Discussions covered potential collaboration, particularly in upstream business in Asia, consistent with the Group’s five-year strategy to expand its upstream portfolio in Southeast Asia, diversify production sources, and strengthen energy security and resiliency. On 15 October 2026, Mr. Chaiwat also led a delegation of Bangchak Group and OKEA ASA executives to Japan to meet with JAPEX’s leadership team, continuing discussions on potential business collaboration.
