As part of the initiative, GULF visited two soldiers who were injured while performing their duties in defense of Thailand’s sovereignty, offering words of encouragement and financial assistance of THB 1 million each. The recipients were Sergeant Major First Class Udomsak Nukman, who lost his left leg after stepping on a landmine, and Sergeant Major First Class Channarong Wongchana, who lost his right leg in a separate landmine incident. The total financial assistance provided amounted to THB 2 million. Major General Narong Phakdeesupapon, Director of Phramongkutklao Hospital, welcomed GULF representatives and joined the visit to offer support and encouragement to the injured soldiers at Phra Mongkut Klao Hospital in Bangkok.
Mr. Sitamon Ratanavadi, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, Gulf Development Public Company Limited (GULF), said, “GULF would like to express our deepest respect and admiration for the courage of every soldier who has dedicated themselves and sacrificed their personal well-being to protect our homeland and safeguard the peace and security of the Thai people. As a Thai company, we recognize the profound value of their sacrifices to our nation, and we firmly believe that those who serve, as well as their families, deserve the very best care and support.”
“While this financial assistance can never fully compensate for what they have lost, we hope it will help ease some of the burden, lift their spirits, and give the soldiers and their families the strength to move forward. We sincerely wish them a swift recovery and hope they will soon be able to return to a good quality of life.”
Major General Narong Phakdeesupapon, Director of Phramongkutklao Hospital, said, “Phramongkutklao Hospital plays an important role as a referral center providing comprehensive care for military personnel injured while defending Thailand’s sovereignty along the Thai-Cambodian border. Our care encompasses specialist medical treatment and aeromedical evacuation through the Sky Doctor service, physical rehabilitation and prosthetic care, as well as psychological support for both injured personnel and their families.
“Our soldiers carry out their duties with courage and pride, and many have suffered the loss of limbs in the line of duty. What helps restore their spirits is the compassion and support they receive from society. As Director of Phramongkutklao Hospital and as a fellow soldier, I would like to thank the private sector and everyone involved for continuing to stand by those who have sacrificed for the country and for always extending your encouragement and support to us.”
Sergeant Major First Class Udomsak Nukman said, “As a member of the Humanitarian Mine Action Unit, our duty is to turn hazardous areas into safe places so that local communities can live and earn their livelihoods as normal. Although I was injured after stepping on a landmine and can no longer perform my duties in the same way, I have never regretted what happened. I remain proud to have served my country, and I hope that this incident will help raise greater public awareness of the importance of mine clearance operations. Even though I am injured today, my heart is already looking forward to recovering as soon as possible so that I can return and contribute to the work in the field.”
“I would like to thank my family, commanding officers, and members of the public for the care and encouragement they have continually shown me. I am also deeply grateful to GULF for recognizing the dedication and contributions of those serving on the front line. This assistance is a tremendous source of encouragement for both me and my family. I intend to make the best possible use of the support I have received for our daily lives and my family’s future.”
The THB 100 million fund was established by GULF to provide assistance and relief to soldiers injured or lost their lives while carrying out security operations along the Thai-Cambodian border. The initiative aims to mitigate the impact on affected personnel and their families, improve their quality of life, and strengthen their morale, enabling them to navigate difficult circumstances and move forward with resilience.
To date, the fund has provided THB 46 million in assistance to the families of 46 soldiers who lost their lives, as well as more than THB 22.8 million in assistance to injured soldiers. GULF has also placed importance on supporting public healthcare services, donating more than THB 2.1 million worth of medical equipment to Fort Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital in Ubon Ratchathani Province. Altogether, assistance provided through the fund to date has exceeded THB 70.9 million, reflecting GULF’s ongoing commitment to honoring and supporting the sacrifices made by Thai soldiers.
Beyond the THB 100 million fund, GULF continues to support security-related efforts in border areas through a range of initiatives. These include providing more than 2,000 “GULF Care” relief kits to soldiers and affected civilians at shelters across several provinces, providing financial support to evacuation shelters, and collaborating with its affiliated companies to deploy communications and satellite technologies in support of personnel working in the field. These efforts aim to enhance communications and improve coordination in security operations.
GULF remains committed to playing an active role in advancing Thailand’s sustainable development across all dimensions, particularly by supporting national security efforts and the protection of the country’s sovereignty. The company firmly believes that national security is a vital foundation for economic and social development and for the well-being of the Thai people, enabling the country to move forward with strength, stability, and sustainability.
