This milestone reaffirms True’s commitment to enhancing the 5G and 4G mobile experience for both True and dtac customers, while also supporting international tourists in one of Thailand’s top destinations-recently ranked the No. 1 island destination by the bounce website.
Toward the “Phuket Model” as a Prototype for 100% Network Modernization: Enhancing Mobile Experience for True and dtac Customers with Improved Efficiency
- Speed: 5G speed increased by 30%, 4G speed increased by 18%
- Signal strength: 5G improved by 16%, 4G improved by 23%
- Traffic: 5G data traffic rose by 49%, 4G traffic rose by 18%
- Congestion: 5G congestion reduced by 97%, 4G congestion reduced by 66%
Mr. Prathet Tankuranun, Chief Technology and Information Security Officer of True Corporation Plc., said, “With our vision to be a leader in telecom-tech company, we are committed to continuously upgrading our 5G and 4G networks. As of Q1 2025, True Corporation has modernized 87% of its national network, with Phuket being the first model province to reach 100% completion.”
This success was validated during major international concerts in Phuket, such as EDM festivals with large crowds. The intelligent network analytics system also enhances operational precision, ensuring an exceptional experience across 5G, 4G, WiFi, and True Online services.
The mobile network modernization aligns with the growing number of 5G users nationwide, now totaling 14.2 million subscribers. Phuket was selected as a strategic hub for this enhancement due to its significance in tourism, with bounce, a global travel platform, naming Phuket The Best Island Destination of 2024. The large island, surrounded by beautiful beaches, is also known for offering some of Thailand’s most stunning sunset views.
Phuket ranks No. 1 among Thailand’s top 10 provinces in tourism revenue, reflecting consistent growth in both domestic and international visitors. This made it a clear priority for True, which selected the province as the first to complete full network modernization-optimizing low-, mid-, and high-band spectrum to maximize 5G efficiency.
The project was a success, with the network team conducting over 300,000 kilometers of drive tests around the island to inspect signal quality and upgrading mobile signal towers at 800 sites. Following completion, network performance improved significantly.
“True Corporation continues its network modernization across the country to support increasing usage and deliver superior experiences to customers in all areas. Our goal is to complete 100% network modernization nationwide by Q3 this year,” Mr. Prathet concluded.
