Mitihoon – SCBX Group reinforces its role as a leader in technology and financial innovation, firmly committed to advancing Thai research onto the world stage by aiming for publishing “A-Star (A*) Research” at top tier conferences as ranked by the Computing Research and Education Association of Australasia (CORE). This goal is a key mechanism for boosting Thai researchers’ capabilities and broaden their international influence.
Recently, the Typhoon research team of SCB 10X, the disruptive technology investment arm within SCBX Group, achieved a major milestone with the acceptance of five co-authored artificial-intelligence papers to the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL) 2025, one of the world’s most prestigious conferences in natural-language processing and computational linguistics. This success stems from collaboration with four leading institutions: VISTEC, Stanford University, the University of Cambridge, and the SEACrowd research community, comprising three papers in the Main Conference, one in Findings, and one in the LLM Security Workshop.
Kaweewut Temphuwapat, Chief Executive Officer of SCB 10X, said, “We are deeply honored that all five of Typhoon’s co-authored papers have been accepted to ACL 2025, one of the world’s most prestigious conferences in natural language processing (NLP), with a rigorous peer-review process and high international recognition.”
Five Typhoon co-authored papers at ACL 2025
Main Conference (3 papers):
- Skill Aggregation: Reference-free LLM-Dependent Aggregation
In collaboration with the University of Cambridge and Stanford University – Aggregates outputs from multiple LLMs without ground-truth labels (reference-free) by learning to combine estimates from LLM judges, improving decision quality-making and surpassing traditional evaluation approaches.
- Mind the Gap! Static and Interactive Evaluations of Large Audio Models
In collaboration with Stanford University – Provides static and interactive frameworks for evaluating Large Audio Models (LAMs) on user preferences and query comprehension through interaction with users.
- Crowdsource, Crawl, or Generate? Creating SEA-VL, a Multicultural Vision-Language Dataset for Southeast Asia
In collaboration with SEACrowd – Introduces SEA-VL, a high-quality vision-language dataset containing 1.28 million Southeast Asia culturally relevant images.
Findings (1 paper):
- Towards Better Understanding of Program-of-Thought Reasoning in Cross-Lingual and Multilingual Environments
In collaboration with VISTEC – Examines AI reasoning in multilingual settings using the Program-of-Thought technique, which separates reasoning steps from computation for higher accuracy.
LLM Security Workshop (1 paper):
- Shortcut Learning in Safety: The Impact of Keyword Bias in Safeguards
In collaboration with VISTEC – Investigates how keyword bias in safeguard models can influence an accuracy of prompt classification, revealing risks of shortcut learning in LLM safety models.
“SCB 10X is one of Thailand’s leading organizations pursuing A*-quality research, with 11 AI papers accepted and published at top-tier international conferences such as ACL, EMNLP (Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing), ICLR (International Conference on Learning Representations), and Interspeech. Research insights from these papers are the foundation for SCB 10X’s AI models—Typhoon T1, Typhoon2 R1, and Typhoon2 Audio. In addition, SCB 10X has published several technical reports on approaches behind our models on OpenTyphoon.ai, enabling researchers worldwide to access and build upon this knowledge freely. Although each paper has its specific focus, they all share a common goal: developing AI that is context-aware, inclusive, and pragmatic. We thank our collaborators, co-authors, and reviewers for making this possible,” Kaweewut added.
Although Thailand does not yet have an official national ranking for A* conference participation, signs of growth are emerging, with organizations such as SCBX Group, VISTEC, and Chulalongkorn University actively laying the groundwork for Thai researchers to gain global visibility and enhance the nation’s reputation through world-class research.
“SCBX Group has a clear goal of connecting Thailand’s research ecosystem to the world through open research, public-private collaboration, and ongoing effort for A* publications,” Kaweewut concluded. “Our ACL 2025 success showcases Thailand’s research potential on the global stage and an important step toward positioning the country as Southeast Asia’s AI research hub.”
