Mitihoon – WP Energy Public Company Limited (WP Energy), a leading comprehensive energy company and LPG distributor under the brand “Worldgas,” has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to sustainability by advancing its “WE PROMISE” mission through the launch of the “WP Solar for Good” initiative. The company will commit over 60 million over the next five years to install solar rooftop systems for more than 200 temples, schools, hospitals, and communities across the country. This initiative will provide a generating capacity of 2,060 kilowatts free of charge. Additionally, WP Energy will donate 50,000 kilograms of cooking gas annually to institutions participating in the project, with the goal of reducing energy-related expenses, improving quality of life, and cultivating long-term environmental awareness throughout Thailand.
Ms. Chomkamol Poompanmoung, Chief Executive Officer of WP Energy Public Company Limited, commented on the company’s sustainability vision, stating, “Our operations at WP Energy are guided by our “WE PROMISE” mission. The initiative is more than just a promise, but also a core principle in every part of our business, encompassing our commitment to support environmental care, enhance the quality of life for all Thais sustainably, foster diversity and social participation, and empower our nation’s youth. This commitment aligns with our evolution into a comprehensive Service & Energy Solution Provider. While our primary business remains LPG distribution under the ‘Worldgas’ brand, we have expanded our expertise to include consulting and implementing eco-friendly energy solutions like solar rooftops or solar energy systems, having already installed over 11 megawatts for industrial clients.
Originating from the company’s sustainability vision and its technical expertise comes the ‘WP Solar for Good’ project, a 60 million baht project to provide 2,060 kilowatts of solar power to over 200 essential community hubs—including temples, schools, and hospitals—nationwide over the next five years, completely free of charge. Undertaken with our EPC partner companies, this project supports the company vision of increasing access to clean energy through innovative forms of energy products and services for Thais. It also aims to promote the use of clean energy, reduce energy expenses, instill environmental consciousness, and reflect the organization’s long-term commitment to sustainability. Additionally, we will donate 50,000 kilograms of Worldgas cooking gas annually to these participating institutions, which will help lower their operational costs and further improve quality of life. At WP Energy, we believe sustainability is a shared responsibility that requires collaboration across all sectors. By supporting clean energy, a foundation for broad development, we are investing in the sustainable future of Thailand.”
Mr. Noppavong Omathikul, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of WP Energy Public Company Limited, added that, “The “WP Solar for Good” project is an important step for WP Energy in promoting the use of clean energy and renewable energy, especially solar energy. This initiative goes beyond simply installing clean technology as it is also about laying the groundwork for sustainable environmental, economic, and social change. We will focus on helping schools, community areas, temples, hospitals, and other key public institutions that face budgetary constraints yet have high potential for efficient clean energy adoption. To help identify institutions with significant energy use, a key selection criterion is that the participating location must have an average monthly electricity bill of at least 10,000 baht per month. For our pilot year, we will install systems in six target areas across 2025, with an average size of 10 kilowatts per location for a total of 60 kilowatts. These first six locations will be in areas near the company’s service locations for convenience in monitoring and maintaining the systems. From 2026 onwards, we will scale up the program, aiming to install approximately 400 kilowatts across at least 40 new sites annually, reaching our goal of 200 locations nationwide by 2030.
The project will be managed meticulously from end-to-end, encompassing site surveys, expert engineering design and installation, and comprehensive training to empower each community with the knowledge for long-term self-reliance. Beyond the technical installations, the initiative includes creative activities with the local communities such as tree planting, clean energy workshops, and environmental volunteer activities. This will help foster broad participation, spark awareness, and help the community utilize solar power to enhance energy efficiency or generate additional income. Upon completion, we expect the 200 sites will collectively reduce national energy costs by over 1,030,000 baht per month or approximately 12.36 million baht annually and cut greenhouse gas emissions by more than 1,483.2 tons of CO2 per year, equivalent to planting over 67,000 trees. Furthermore, we are targeting a user satisfaction score of at least 80% to ensure the project delivers real, lasting benefits. This will help ensure that ‘WP Solar for Good’ will create a significant ripple effect, embedding clean energy into the fabric of daily life and serving as a true model for how energy can be harnessed to build a better society.”
Applications for the “WP Solar for Good” project are now open to interested organizations and communities. WP Energy also extends an invitation to private sector partners with a shared commitment to sustainability to support this initiative.
