Mitihoon – True Corporation in cooperation with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) inspected mobile and broadband service quality following the road collapse in front of Vajira Hospital on Samsen Road. Three Cell-on-Wheels (COW) mobile base stations have been deployed to boost 5G/4G coverage, ensuring continued communications for local residents, patients, relatives, and government officials. Free WiFi has also been provided at the Incident Command Post (ICP) and Dusit District Center, while True Online customers in the affected area are being supported with 10GB of free mobile data for three days and round-the-clock network monitoring. Both True Corporation and NBTC emphasized their readiness with an emergency communication plan covering a radius of 1–2 square kilometers should an evacuation be required for public safety.
Mr. Trairat Viriyasirikul, NBTC Deputy Secretary-General and Acting Secretary-General, said, “Today, NBTC inspected the area in front of Vajira Hospital on Samsen Road to monitor the road collapse and check network quality together with mobile and broadband operators. This is to ensure that local residents, as well as patients and their relatives at Vajira Hospital, can continue to communicate normally. NBTC has instructed mobile operators to follow disaster-response measures by deploying COW units and dispatching engineering teams immediately after the incident began. These steps are being taken alongside continuous monitoring of communication systems to ensure connectivity even during emergencies, with contingency plans ready in case of an evacuation.”
Mr. Narupon Rattanasamaharn, Head of Regulatory & Government Relations Division at True Corporation Plc., said, “For True Corporation’s mobile network, we are fully prepared to provide maximum service capacity within a 1–2 square kilometers radius of the road collapse site. Three COW units were deployed and installed to reinforce 5G/4G coverage and maintain service continuity for the public. This is part of our emergency plan to ensure reliable communications in the event that an evacuation is required.”
Following the road collapse, which created a sinkhole several tens of meters wide and deep, True dispatched its engineers to the site immediately. The COW units were installed to support increased demand and assist government agencies in their operations.
Mr. Narupon added, “We have used our experience from previous disaster-relief collaborations, particularly in the aftermath of earthquake-induced building collapses, where we supported enhanced 5G/4G capacity for emergency missions. Those lessons have been applied here to strengthen our emergency response plan and ensure that both the public and government agencies can maintain uninterrupted communications, including support for devices requiring high-speed internet access.”
In addition, True Corporation and NBTC have jointly provided free WiFi for government officials and rescue teams operating in the area at the Incident Command Post (ICP) and Dusit District Center, to ensure reliable high-speed internet for coordination.
The road collapse caused extensive damage, including fallen electricity poles that disrupted communication cables and potentially affected home internet services. To mitigate the impact, True has implemented relief measures by offering 10GB of free mobile data for three days to True Online customers in the affected area, along with 24-hour monitoring of both mobile and broadband networks to guarantee continued service.
