Mitihoon – Uzbekistan Airways, the national carrier of the Republic of Uzbekistan, continues to strengthen its presence in the Thai market. Most recently, the airline hosted the “Uzbekistan Airways Thailand Connectivity & Strategic Partnership Forum” in collaboration with key partners, announcing its strategy for route expansion and its ambition to position Uzbekistan as a new tourism destination for Thai travelers.
Mr. Murod Gulyamov, Country Manager of Uzbekistan Airways, revealed that Thailand is a key strategic market in Southeast Asia. Uzbekistan Airways and Thai Air Services Co., Ltd. (TAS) have enjoyed a long-standing partnership of over 30 years, dating back to the airline’s initial operations in 1994.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Uzbekistan Airways resumed services to Thailand in 2023. From an initial two flights per week, the airline has expanded operations to six weekly flights—four to Bangkok and two to Phuket. Looking ahead, the airline plans to launch a new route to Krabi in 2026, with a target of increasing flight frequencies to eight per week. This will mark the first time that direct flights from Tashkent to Thailand operate on an almost daily basis.
In terms of fleet modernization, the airline operates next-generation aircraft, including the Airbus A321neo, Boeing 767, and Boeing 787 Dreamliner, enhancing passenger comfort and travel experience. At the same time, Uzbekistan Airways remains committed to offering competitive fares, with one-way prices starting at approximately USD 250–260, supported by joint marketing strategies with Thai Air Services (TAS).
Uzbekistan’s key strengths lie in its rich cultural and historical heritage along the Silk Road, featuring UNESCO World Heritage cities such as Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva. The country also boasts diverse natural attractions, including the Tian Shan Mountains, the Kyzylkum Desert, and Tashkent—the capital city that seamlessly blends modern urban life with deep-rooted cultural traditions.
Another compelling dimension of Uzbekistan is its historical role as a center of Buddhism in ancient Central Asia. Although Uzbekistan is predominantly a Muslim country today, significant Buddhist archaeological sites remain, particularly in the southern region around Termez. The Uzbek government has plans to restore and preserve these sites as part of a sustainable cultural tourism initiative.
Uzbekistan Airways and Thai Air Services Co., Ltd. (TAS) remain committed to jointly enhancing air connectivity and tourism cooperation between Thailand and Uzbekistan, offering travelers distinctive and meaningful journeys that reflect the cultural diversity and legacy of the Silk Road.
