Mitihoon – Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) has launched “SCB PLANET PLUS,” an end-to-end travel solutions platform under the concept “One App, Travel the World.” The new application enhances overseas spending with a seamless, cashless experience, enabling users to scan and pay initially at merchants across hospitality, attractions, F&B, retail, transportation and more, progressively across the Alipay+ ecosystem. The app elevates the customer experience for global cross-border payments, offering in-app travel services such as in-destination promotions, merchant discovery, and mini-app engagement. three key features: 1. Easy Scan-to-Pay worldwide without the need to exchange foreign currency in advance, with automatic exchange rate calculation and currency conversion. 2. SCB aims to reach 300,000 app downloads by 2026, reinforcing its role as a hub for cross-border payment solutions for travelers.
Mr. Thanawatn Kittisuwan, First Executive Vice President, Head of Digital Business and Payment Solutions, Siam Commercial Bank said data from Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports shows a strong recovery in outbound travel. In 2024, the number of Thai travelers going abroad grew 128% year-on-year, while overseas spending rose 115%. The top destinations include China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Hong Kong. SCB continues to advance its “Digital Bank with Human Touch” strategy by combining advanced technology with deep customer insights to deliver solutions that meet diverse lifestyle needs. Research also indicates that 25% of travelers now use mobile wallets abroad, driven by the convenience and speed of scan-to-pay, competitive exchange rates, easier expense management, and enhanced security compared with carrying cash.
To support this trend, SCB introduced SCB PLANET PLUS, leveraging Ant International’s innovations and ecosystem, as a comprehensive travel platform that brings essential travel services together within a single ecosystem, designed to serve travelers across all customer segments. The bank plans to further expand the platform to include services such as hotel bookings, flight tickets, restaurant reservations, transportation, and ride-hailing, alongside integrated payment and top-up channels. SCB also plans to consolidate its travel-related cards into the app to deliver a more seamless overseas spending experience.
