Mitihoon – EXIM Thailand Advances Sustainable Finance to Help Thai Businesses Adapt to Global Trade Rules, Strengthening Its Role as a Financial Catalyst for Capital, Technology and Risk Management, and Earning Global Recognition with the Sustainable Capital and Investment Leadership Award
Mr. Charat Rattanaboonniti, President of Export-Import Bank of Thailand (EXIM Thailand), shared his vision on “Sustainable Finance for Responsible Exports, Investment and Supply Chains” at the Climate & Sustainability Capital Forum (CSCAP 2026). He noted that sustainability is shifting from a corporate responsibility agenda to becoming the “new rule of business,” directly affecting the competitiveness of global trade, investment and supply chains. In particular, carbon reduction measures, environmental standards, disclosure requirements, traceability and responsible supply chain requirements are driving SME exporters and supply chain manufacturers to accelerate their transition in order to remain competitive and connected to global markets. At the same time, the transition to sustainability should not become a new barrier to trade, but rather an opportunity for Thai businesses to strengthen their capabilities and maintain access to global markets.
EXIM Thailand is therefore strengthening its role from a financing provider to a financial catalyst and transition partner, helping businesses mitigate risks, access technology and turn sustainable investment into commercially viable projects. This builds on its continued support for clean and renewable energy projects in Thailand and overseas, particularly when such technologies and business models are still at an early stage. This reflects EXIM Thailand’s role as a financial mechanism that builds confidence, paves the way for broader investment and accelerates the sustainability transition of Thai businesses.
Currently, EXIM Thailand’s ESG Portfolio accounts for around 50% of its total loan portfolio, comprising approximately 42% Green Finance, 6% Blue Economy, and 2% Social Finance. This demonstrates that Sustainable Finance has evolved beyond niche financial products to become structurally integrated into the Bank’s business, covering greenhouse gas reduction, the blue economy, inclusive growth and business resilience against future risks. EXIM Thailand also supports market infrastructure such as carbon markets, helping connect measurable and verifiable environmental outcomes with economic value and investment opportunities.
Looking ahead, EXIM Thailand is focused on building financial mechanisms that enable sustainable investment to scale commercially by connecting capital, technology, risk management and markets to support both green projects and industries undergoing transition. It also aims to provide financing to businesses across supply chains, enabling them to invest in clean technologies, clean energy and traceability systems that align with evolving global market standards.
The transition toward a sustainable economy cannot be achieved by any single institution alone. It requires collaboration among the public and private sectors, financial institutions, technology providers, industry associations, SMEs support agencies and international networks to connect technology, capital, markets and international standards. EXIM Thailand is ready to serve as an anchor financial partner, bringing together capital, risk management tools and collaborative networks to help drive the transition of Thai businesses.
On the same occasion, EXIM Thailand President also received the prestigious Sustainable Capital and Investment Leadership award, recognizing EXIM Thailand as a specialized state-owned financial institution with a distinguished role in leveraging financial and investment mechanisms to support the sustainable growth of the Thai economy. The award was presented by Mr. David Abonyi, Executive Director for International Cooperation, Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia Pacific (CSCAP), at CSCAP, United Nations, on September 24, 2026.
The award recognizes EXIM Thailand’s tangible achievements in mobilizing and allocating capital, integrating ESG considerations into financial decision-making, and supporting businesses across supply chains in adapting to environmental requirements while strengthening their competitiveness in global markets.
