Mitihoon – AIS Expands 5G-ADVANCED Uplink Across 100% of Bangkok, Making It the World’s First Capital City with Citywide Coverage — Delivering Up to 2X Faster Upload Speeds for the AI and Creator Economy, Advancing Thailand Toward ASEAN AI Connectivity Hub
AIS has expanded its 5G-ADVANCED Uplink capability to cover 100% of its outdoor service areas across Bangkok, making the Thai capital the world’s first capital city with citywide 5G-ADVANCED Uplink coverage. Powered by Uplink 2CC technology combining the 2600 MHz and 700 MHz spectrum bands on AIS’s 5G Standalone (5G SA) network, the enhancement delivers upload speeds of up to 2X faster. The network upgrade responds to rapidly evolving digital behavior, as users increasingly move beyond consuming data to creating and transmitting significantly larger volumes of content through AI applications, social media, content creation, live streaming, and live commerce. AIS has also expanded this capability to central districts across all 77 provinces nationwide. 5G-ADVANCED represents the next evolution of 5G, leveraging advanced capabilities on the 5G SA network to aggregate multiple spectrum bands and enhance the efficiency of both uplink and downlink data transmission. This enables stronger support for real-time applications and next-generation digital services. AIS customers using compatible devices can experience 5G-ADVANCED without subscribing to an additional package, reflecting the company’s continued commitment to strengthening Thailand’s digital infrastructure, supporting the growth of the AI Economy, and advancing the country toward becoming an ASEAN AI Connectivity Hub.
Mr. Kitti Ngarmchatetanarom, Chief Technology Officer of AIS, said: “The world is entering an era in which AI will no longer exist only on screens or within applications. It will increasingly become embedded in how people work, travel, access healthcare, operate industries, and live their everyday lives — from AI working alongside humans and intelligent vehicles to Smart Health solutions. All of these use cases require digital infrastructure that delivers speed, reliability, security, and the ability to transmit massive volumes of data in real time. We therefore believe that networks today must evolve beyond simply providing connectivity. They must become a National Intelligent Infrastructure capable of supporting the technologies and services of the future. AIS is driving the development of this infrastructure through our WISE Framework, bringing together the capabilities of Spectrum, Technology, and Expertise across four key pillars:
- Watch Ahead — Applying AI and automation to analyze, predict, and intelligently manage the network so that it can respond to demand before it emerges.
- Innovate Beyond — Developing new technologies and innovations to strengthen network capabilities and enable new use cases.
- Security & Trust — Enhancing security and reliability, which will become increasingly critical as more devices, systems, and services become interconnected.
- Energy Intelligence — Managing energy more efficiently and sustainably.
Since launching 5G-ADVANCED in the middle of this year, AIS has continuously expanded the network’s capabilities, with particular emphasis on uplink performance. User behavior is shifting from primarily receiving data to increasingly creating and transmitting large volumes of data. Today, we have expanded Uplink 2CC to 100% of our outdoor service areas across Bangkok, making Bangkok the world’s first capital city with citywide 5G-ADVANCED Uplink coverage. This delivers upload speeds of up to 2X faster, while the capability has also been extended to central districts across all 77 provinces nationwide. This is not simply about faster speeds. It is about preparing the infrastructure required for an AI-driven economy and laying the foundation for Thailand to connect with new opportunities across the region as an ASEAN AI Connectivity Hub.”

At the same time, AIS continues to expand its Downlink 3CC capability by aggregating the 2600 MHz, 700 MHz, and 2100 MHz spectrum bands, enabling download speeds of up to 1.5X faster and delivering a more complete 5G-ADVANCED experience across both uplink and downlink performance. Downlink 3CC currently covers the majority of Bangkok, with AIS targeting full Bangkok coverage by the end of 2026.
Mr. Kitti added: “AIS’s approach to Network Innovation is not simply about making the network faster or being the first to introduce new technologies. What matters most is ensuring that those technologies can be used in real-world environments, scaled effectively, and deliver tangible benefits. Many future demands may not yet be fully visible today — from AI, Cloud, IoT, Intelligent Industry, Smart City, Smart Health, and Automation to Agentic AI. Our responsibility is to ensure that the infrastructure is ready before those demands arrive. We believe that AI will create new possibilities, while Intelligent Infrastructure will provide the foundation that turns those possibilities into reality. AIS will therefore continue to advance its network and innovation capabilities so that Thailand’s digital infrastructure is not only ready for the future, but can also become a key force in creating new opportunities, accelerating the AI Economy, and advancing Thailand toward becoming an ASEAN AI Connectivity Hub — connecting technology, innovation, and regional growth for the future.”
Note: * 100% coverage refers to AIS outdoor service coverage areas in Bangkok. Indoor areas are excluded, and signal quality may vary depending on building characteristics and surrounding environmental conditions.
