Mitihoon – As Thailand takes center stage this August as the host for the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2025, digital travel platform Agoda has revealed a rise in travel interest to host cities during the August 22 to September 7 championship dates. The increase in interest highlights Thailand’s growing appeal as a premier destination for sports tourism, coinciding with the country’s landmark Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025 initiative, led by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Thai government.
Agoda data revealed year-over-year growth in travel interest across two of the four host cities: Nakhon Ratchasima and Phuket, each home to a key venue for the championship, with matches held at Korat Chatchai Hall in Nakhon Ratchasima and the Phuket Municipal Sports Complex.
The top three inbound markets showing interest in travel to Nakhon Ratchasima during the championship were South Korea, Japan, and Malaysia. Despite the South Korean team’s absence in this year’s tournament, the interest is likely influenced by South Korea’s strong performance in the 2022 championship.
South Korea also emerged as the top inbound market in terms of interest in travelling to Phuket during the championship, with a 39% year-on-year rise in searches during this period. In addition to South Korea, Malaysia and Japan followed as the top three markets showing increased interest in travel to Phuket.
