Mitihoon – True Corporation Plc. has mobilized its network teams and established a 24-hour War Room to monitor Typhoon Kajiki and implement urgent response measures to ensure continuity of communications. Following forecasts from the Thai Meteorological Department of heavy to very heavy rainfall expected to affect Thailand, the company is concerned about a repeat of Typhoon Wipha, which impacted the country in July. Proactive plans are being executed to secure both mobile and home internet services across provinces at risk, particularly in the North and Northeastern regions. Preparations include deploying power generators and fuel reserves at key base stations to prevent service disruption in the event of power cuts for community safety during floods, as well as installing elevated scaffolding to keep equipment above flood levels.
According to the Thai Meteorological Department, Typhoon Kajiki is forecast to make landfall in upper Vietnam before weakening into a tropical storm and tropical depression as it moves into upper Northeastern Thailand on the morning of 26 August, then further weaken into a strong low-pressure cell as it reaches Northern Thailand, especially Nan province, later the same day. The storm is expected to bring heavy rainfall, strong winds, flash floods, and landslides across several areas.
Mr. Prathet Tankuranun, Chief Technology and Information Security Officer of True Corporation Plc., said: “Our network teams are accelerating emergency response measures across all high-risk provinces, particularly Nan. A dedicated War Room has been activated at the Business and Network Intelligence Center (BNIC), operating in conjunction with AI systems to monitor and manage the network 24/7, ensuring uninterrupted communication for the public throughout the crisis.”
True Corporation has applied lessons learned from Typhoon Wipha to reinforce its preparedness for Typhoon Kajiki, ensuring continuity of both mobile and home internet services, with a particular focus on flood-prone provinces such as Nan, Chiang Rai, and Phrae.
One major challenge faced during Typhoon Wipha was power supply disruption when continuous heavy rainfall and flooding forced electricity cuts for public safety. This also affected base stations. To address this, True’s network teams have prepared scaffolding structures for installing power generators and deploying fuel reserves at key sites to ensure continuous mobile service until floodwaters recede and power supply is restored.
True Corporation’s urgent preparedness measures for Typhoon Kajiki include:
- Deploying power generators, fuel reserves, and backup batteries to base stations in case of flood-related power outages.
- Deploying mobile base station units (Cell-On-Wheel: COW) to reinforce signals in critical areas.
- Preparing 4WD vehicles and flat-bottom boats to access flooded zones.
- Stockpiling spare equipment and deploying emergency repair teams to maintain services.
- Coordinating with government and private agencies to support relief efforts.
- Continuous monitoring and network management by the Business and Network Intelligence Center (BNIC), enhanced with AI systems, operating 24/7.
In addition, True Corporation is cooperating with the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) to deliver public safety alerts via the Cell Broadcast Service (CBS) and SMS. The DDPM will be responsible for issuing and determining the content of all warning messages sent to people in high-risk areas.
True Corporation remains committed to maintaining robust communication systems to ensure people stay connected during crises, while working closely with the NBTC and relevant agencies to help alleviate hardships for affected communities.
