Mitihoon – True Corporation is maintaining 24-hour emergency efforts in Hatyai as the city faces one of the most severe flooding events in decades. Since the first day of the crisis, the company has continuously carried out operations with an urgent mission to restore communication services to normal and keep them available around the clock, in order to support the work of government command centers, the NBTC, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), rescue teams, medical personnel and residents in high-risk areas. Engineering teams, network specialists and field staff from all regions have been mobilized to Hatyai to jointly reinforce and restore the city’s critical communications infrastructure during this period when every minute is vital to people’s lives and safety.
Most recently, Mr. Khurrum Ashfaque, Chief Network Officer, and Mr. Jirachai Kunakorn, Deputy Chief Network Officer of True Corporation Plc., led engineering teams to inspect mobile network centers, base stations, True service locations, and coordination points across the city. Their mission prioritizes “strategic sites” that must remain fully operational to support emergency management, all of which have now been stabilized and brought back to normal service levels:
- Government Command Center, the core hub directing Hatyai’s flood-relief and recovery operations, including military units and disaster-response agencies
- Hatyai International Airport and Wing 56, critical for transporting personnel, medical equipment, and essential supplies
- All major hospitals, including field hospitals serving evacuated residents
- Evacuation centers and temporary shelters, such as the Prince of Songkla University (PSU), which hosts large numbers of flood-affected communities
During the latest site inspections, Mr. Khurrum and True’s network engineering team also visited Hatyai Hospital, where they met with Dr. Wiroj Yommuang, the Hospital Director, to coordinate communication support for doctors, nurses, and emergency medical teams who continue to deliver frontline care to affected residents.
To reinforce coverage, True Corporation has deployed additional Cell-on-Wheels (COW) units from other regions to multiple districts in Hatyai, expanding network capacity and optimizing event parameters to match post-flood usage patterns. Backup power systems, generators, and key fiber-optic transmission routes have also been strengthened to ensure that both mobile and home internet services remain operational in the hardest-hit areas.
The severe flooding has caused extensive damage across Hatyai. Key economic zones were submerged for days, homes and buildings suffered widespread destruction, and hospitals, schools, and transport routes were heavily impacted. Debris, damaged vehicles, and collapsed structures continue to obstruct certain roads, slowing recovery efforts and complicating access to affected network sites, even as water levels begin to recede and major roads reopen.
True Corporation remains fully committed to maintaining stable communication services during this critical period, recognizing that telecommunications are the backbone of all emergency coordination – from inter-agency communication and rescue deployment to medical support and public information access. The company continues to work closely with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) under Thailand’s national emergency telecommunications framework to uphold network resilience and ensure uninterrupted connectivity during the country’s flood response.
