KTC Responds to Gen Z Expectations Through “KTC COOP” Program Creating Space for Young Voices, Real-World Experience and Meaningful Growth

Mitihoon – For today’s Gen Z, work is no longer defined simply by having a job, but by whether their voices are heard and valued. Internships are no longer seen as just a requirement for graduation or a step before entering the workforce. Instead, they have become an important period of self-discovery, offering young people the chance to experience the realities of the workplace, explore their own strengths, and reflect on the career paths they want to pursue in the future.

Questions such as ‘Why go through an internship when you could enter the workforce away?’ are increasingly raised by younger generations. In reality, however, internships represent the safest testing ground in the world of work. The internships provide a structured space where young people can learn through hands-on experience, make mistakes, reflect on them, and grow with purpose. Research titled Generation Z and the World of Work in Southeast Asia (2023) highlights that Gen Z prioritises hands-on work experience, guidance from experienced professionals, and organisational cultures that genuinely value employee voices, rather than focusing solely on compensation or corporate reputation. These elements play a critical role in shaping motivation, engagement, and long-term decisions to grow and build a future with an organisation.

This perspective takes shape in the KTC Co-Operative Program (KTC COOP), operated by Krungthai Card Public Company Limited (KTC), a cooperative education program designed with participants at its core. The program offers third- and fourth-year university students the opportunity to become part of real working teams, taking on roles with genuine responsibility and being encouraged to contribute ideas in a constructive manner. Placements are matched to student’s academic backgrounds and interests, covering functions such as credit card marketing, information technology, human resources, finance and investor relations, customer service, and corporate communications. The exposure provides a practical, cross-functional understanding of how a financial institution operates.

The KTC COOP program also places strong emphasis on a mentoring system, with coaches providing close guidance and constructive feedback throughout the placement. This approach reflects how younger generations learn best—through open, honest communication and continuous support throughout the program. From an organizational standpoint, KTC views the KTC COOP program as part of its broader effort to nurture young talent and prepare the next generation of its workforce by giving students early, structured opportunities to experience real work environments—helping them understand workplace culture, develop practical skills, and feel more prepared for professional life.

Miss Piyasuda Kwaennonsee, Head of Human Resources at KTC, said, “KTC believes in people development as a long-term strategic investment, particularly in preparing young talent before they enter the professional world. The KTC Co-Operative Program (KTC COOP) is designed to equip students with hands-on work experience and essential skills for the modern workplace, including analytical thinking, communication, and teamwork, while enabling them to explore their potential and career direction with confidence. Equally important is the program emphasis on core values, such as ‘Junior Speaks First’, which encourage young people to question, share ideas, and exchange perspectives openly, regardless of age or position.”

The KTC Co-Operative Program (KTC COOP) offers three training periods: the first semester, final semester, and summer semester.
