TRUE Strengthens 5G and Broadband Nationwide for Songkran Festival as High Fuel Prices Shape Travel Behavior, Supporting Mobility and Family Activities Across All Regions

Mitihoon – True Corporation boosts network readiness for the Songkran holiday period as Thailand enters a long holiday amid record-high fuel prices, which are expected to reshape travel behavior. Travelers may shorten trip distances, stay closer to home, or spend more time with family, while those who travel are likely to spend longer periods on main roads and at rest stops, particularly at gas stations where congestion may increase.

To support these evolving patterns, True has deployed a full suite of network solutions. In addition to strengthening 5G and 4G coverage, the company has expanded In-Building Coverage (IBC) across shopping malls and indoor venues in Bangkok to support urban users who choose to celebrate in the city. Whether shopping, watching movies, or dining out, customers can enjoy seamless connectivity without interruption.

True is also leveraging AI certified at Autonomous Network Level 4.0 by TM Forum to manage its network through Intent-Based Operation (IBO), which functions like an AI operations team monitoring network performance 24 hours a day.

Mr. Khurrum Ashfaque, Chief Network Officer of True Corporation Public Company Limited, said, “We are not only planning network capacity for Songkran travel but also preparing for changing usage behavior. Traditionally, Songkran traffic concentrated in major destinations and long-distance travel. This year, we expect a more distributed and flexible pattern across interprovincial travel, local activities, and home usage. Digital demand will remain high but spread across major event locations, transport routes, rest areas, and communities, alongside continued growth in home broadband usage.”

To support this trend, True has ensured 5G and 4G readiness across five key areas nationwide:

  • Tourist attractions, temples, and merit-making locations
  • Songkran water celebration venues
  • Transport hubs such as airports, bus terminals, and railway stations
  • Main interprovincial road networks
  • Rest areas and gas stations along key routes

In Bangkok and surrounding areas, special focus has been placed on major Songkran event locations and global tourist attractions, including Khaosan Road, Silom Road, Siam Square, and large-scale festivals such as SIAM Songkran Music Festival, S2O Songkran Music Festival, and X Festival, as well as key activity zones nationwide.

For this year’s Songkran, True has implemented comprehensive network enhancement solutions to support higher and more complex usage, including:

  • Deployment of Cells on Wheels (COWs) at high-density locations
  • Installation of temporary base stations at key venues and tourist areas nationwide
  • Network parameter tuning aligned with festival usage behavior
  • Expansion of IBC to strengthen indoor coverage across Bangkok
  • Real-time network management across all service layers

In addition, True is utilizing AI-powered Autonomous Network Level 4.0 capabilities via IBO to predict and optimize network performance before potential impact. The system dynamically distributes traffic in congested areas, manages interference, and evaluates performance in real time, ensuring smooth and continuous usage across 5G and 4G services, including streaming, video calls, and gaming.

The company has also activated its BNIC and War Room operations 24 hours a day, using AI to monitor and analyze network conditions nationwide across 5G, 4G, and home broadband. This enables rapid response to changing demand and ensures consistent service quality throughout the festival.

True continues to work closely with the NBTC to maintain network quality and build confidence among all users, whether traveling or staying at home during the holiday period.

“This year’s network readiness reflects True’s role in strengthening digital infrastructure to support real-life usage across all scenarios, accommodating both travel demand and more flexible lifestyles of Thai consumers,” Mr. Khurrum said.

To celebrate Songkran, True is offering special promotions to customers nationwide. Customers who spend 500 baht at participating True Shops and dtac Shops at 129 locations will receive a complimentary waterproof bag, starting April 7, with one privilege per person.

True is also partnering with the Tourism Authority of Thailand to support Songkran festivities in Bangkok, offering exclusive privileges at Lumpini Park and Benjakitti Park from April 11 to 15, 2026. Customers can enjoy complimentary refreshments, including Coca-Cola Zero, Slurpee, mineral water, and ice cream, along with discounts of up to 50 percent at KFC and up to 10 percent on art workshops for TrueBlack and dtac PLATINUM BLUE customers. Tourist SIM users can also receive a free waterproof pouch at True booths during the event.
